Brief History

Marillac House started in 1914 as Catholic Social Center at 308 S. Sangamon as a Day Nursery, a Kindergarten, a lunch room and programs for women. In 1946, the Daughters of Charity, our parent organization who have been in Chicago since 1861 reaching out to those most in need, sponsored our incorporation as Marillac Social Center.

We moved to our present location on February 11, 1995 from its original location at 2822 W. Jackson Boulevard. Today, there are six Daughters of Charity, a School Sister of Notre Dame and two Adrian Dominicans. They all work tirelessly with over 100 qualified and well trained staff-devoting their time, skills, talent and dedication in strengthening families on Chicago’s west side.
