“A Caravan of Love”
George Kettell and Midwest Vans Ltd. Celebrate 35 Years of Service
The children and families of Chicago’s west side are especially grateful for the “Toys for Tots” initiative organized by George Kettell and other “vanners” at Midwest Vans Ltd.
Vanners are people who congregate and socialize with others who enjoy the hobby of driving and customizing vans.
“Vannin” events include people of all ages spending time together at any location that can accommodate their vans, such as a field, parking lot, etc.
The founders of vannin were vets and blue collar workers seeking a venue for self-expression and comradery.
In 1972, George and his fellow vanners established Midwest Vans Ltd., which is an active and vibrant part of the international vannin community.
In 1976, Midwest Vanners Ltd. made a commitment to serve impoverished families in Chicago.
Marillac Social Center, Northwest Family Services and Mercy Home are among the agencies MVL has collaborated with to reach families in need.
For 35 years, MVL has organized annual “Toys for Tots - Vegas Night” events to generate donations of toys and food for the families at Marillac Social Center.
After these events, club members volunteer their time and resources to caravan toys and food to the families at Marillac Social Center.
The children and staff at the center have been delighted year after year to see the psychedelically embellished vehicles descend upon the center.
Putting Santa’s elves to shame, these boisterous vanners capture the attention of onlookers, who are inspired by their generosity and enthusiasm.
On behalf of Marillac Social Center, we would like to thank George Kettell and the Midwest Vans Ltd. family for maintaining their tradition of giving and community involvement over the last 35 years!
