Beacon of Hope
On April 29th Marillac will hold its 4th Annual Beacon of Hope at the Chicago Marriott on the Magnificent Mile, from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Please join us for dinner, cocktails, dancing and live and silent auctions, as we celebrate “Marillac through the Decades”, benefitting children and families on Chicago’s West Side. We will be honoring Kay Hallagan and W.E. O’Neil for their outstanding service to Chicago area children, teens and seniors.
Early Childhood Development
Seventy families (200 children) participated in a delicious pancake breakfast, which included arts and crafts, photos with the bunny and dying and hunting for Easter eggs. The event was put on by staff and 35 volunteers from Old St. Pat’s Church. The St. Pat’s volunteers made Easter baskets for each of the families. The highlight of the event was an Easter egg hunt, divided by ages. Volunteer Bob Zintarski, put money in many of the eggs, which really added to the excitement. Thanks to all our staff and volunteers who made the fourth annual Breakfast with the Bunny a great event for families to enjoy together.
Early Childhood Education celebrations included: special reading guests in classrooms, sing-alongs and a trip to Malcolm X for a carnival.
After School Matters
The After School Matters youth performed an original play, “A Night at the DuSable”. The 30 teens researched their characters, made the sets and performed for their families and friends. Performances like this build self-confidence and self awareness in our children. Six of the young girls, under the direction of Deanna Hallagan, wrote tributes to Maya Angelou, Billy Holliday and other great African American artists.
Hope Junior
Six Hope Junior girls participated in an over-night trip at Rustic Falls Camp in Wisconsin with Deanna Hallagan and Cindia Grant. They hiked, baked, played games, told ghost stories and focused on life skills, which included addressing issues of bullying.
